MOVIE MOTORAMA! Film Festival and Car Show at the Senate Theater

Cars and movies. An iconic pairing. — Cars transformed the way we moved through our world. Movies put an endless universe of experience within our reach. They brought us freedom, excitement, joy and connection. Cars provided thrilling action to the movies. Movies enhanced the seductive power of cars. Together, they helped define the 20th century experience.

Join us this summer in the Motor City as we celebrate them both at the Senate Theater with a car show and car flick film festival! Expect cool cars in the Senate’s parking lot, a full bar, four classic features revolving around car culture, a silent short film with live organ accompaniment and more. — Tickets: $10.00 for the day.

• 5:00 — “Le Mans” (1971 – 1hr 46m) depicts a fictional 24 Hours of Le Mans auto race starring Steve McQueen and directed by Lee H. Katzin.

• 6:55 — “American Graffiti” (1973 -1hr 50m) Set in Modesto, CA in 1962, it tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures cruizin’ the streets throughout one night, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul Le Mat, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Wolfman Jack, Harrison Ford and Bo Hopkins.

• 8:50 — “Get out and Get Under” (1920 – 25m) Harold Lloyd film w/ live organ accompaniment. A Hal Roach silent comedy about a boy and his Ford Model T.

• 9:45 — “Two Lane Black Top” (1972 -1hr 41m) American road film directed by Monte Hellman, it stars musicians James Taylor and Dennis Wilson, with Warren Oates and Laurie Bird in the leading roles. The sparse, existentialist plot follows a group of street racers during a cross-country race through the American Southwest.

• 10:25 — “Used Cars” (1980 – 1hr 50m) is an American satirical black comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis, starring Kurt Russell as a devious salesman. The film also stars Deborah Harmon and Gerrit Graham, the supporting cast includes Jack Warden, Michael McKean (Lenny), David L. Lander (Squiggy), Joe Flaherty (Second City), Al Lewis (Munsters’ Grandpa), Frank McRae, Dub Taylor, Harry Northup, Dick Miller, and Betty Thomas (Hill Street Blues). “Used Cars” developed cult film status due to its dark, cynical humor.
