CMSC presents Schubert & Waghalter

Making her Chamber Music at the Scarab Club debut, soprano Alaina Brown will perform a selection of beautiful chamber works, including Schubert’s evocative Shepherd on the Rock with clarinetist Lisa Raschiatore and pianist John Etsell. The program will also feature music by H. T. Burleigh, Hall Johnson and Margaret Bonds. Alaina Brown is a distinguished artist, praised for her exceptional musicianship and coloratura, and has performed in leading roles with Toledo Opera, Detroit Opera and Great Lakes Lyric Opera.

Nearly two decades ago, CMSC musicians introduced the music of composer/conductor Ignatz Waghalter to Detroit audiences and also recorded Waghalter’s chamber works. Lillian Scheirich (Concertmaster of the Windsor Symphony) and pianist Mary Siciliano are thrilled to revisit Waghalter’s expressive Violin Sonata. We’re honored that Waghalter’s grandson, David Green, will also join us to share personal reflections about his grandfather.
