MOTOWN LEGEND MARTHA REEVES SUPPORTS MICHIGAN ARTS ACCESS
Detroit, Michigan —- July 9, 2023 — Michigan Arts Access is proud to
announce that Motown legend Martha Reeves has agreed to be an
ambassador for their nonprofit organization. Reeves, who just secured her
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame through a grassroots effort, is eager to
give back to the community that has supported her throughout her career.
“The work that Michigan Arts Access does to ensure people with disabilities
have access to the arts is wonderful,” states Reeves. She knows first hand
about the impact music can have on a person’s life, and adds, “All people
deserve access to the arts.”
Michigan Arts Access Executive Director Michael Gielniak is thrilled about
the relationship. “We are actually the sister organization to Special
Olympics,” states Gielniak. Special Olympics and Very Special Arts were
founded by sisters, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Jean Kennedy Smith.
Michigan Arts Access began as Very Special Arts of Michigan, the state
affiliate of the national organization. “Our organization has been advocating
for arts and cultural access for people with disabilities and providing arts
instruction for special needs students since the 1980s, but nobody knows
who we are. I am thrilled about our relationship with Ms. Reeves because
she will raise awareness of our organization and our mission.”
Reeves will be signing autographs at the 2nd Annual Midtown Art Fair on Sunday, July 16 as her
first appearance for Michigan Arts Access. The Midtown Art Fair was created in order to
ensure the inclusion of artists with disabilities in a professional art fair and model what access
and inclusion that enriches everyone can look like. This is a fully accessible event that
embraces the diversity, equity and inclusion of all Michigan citizens. Gielniak believes
Michiganders will embrace the mission and invites everyone to come out and celebrate the
beautiful tapestry of Michigan’s creative community.
